Our Story

We didn't come to Batavia to change the menu.
We came to keep it alive.

La Oaxaqueña was born from a single conviction: that the food of Oaxaca — with its seven moles, its stone-ground masa, its chiles that carry the heat of entire mountain ranges — deserves to be made exactly as it has always been made.

Our recipes travel through generations, not menus. The mole negro is ground on a metate the way our grandmother taught us. The tortillas are pressed by hand, every single one. We source chiles from Oaxaca and ship them here so nothing tastes like an approximation.

Batavia gave us a home. We gave Batavia a kitchen that refuses to compromise. Every plate that leaves this line carries the same intention it would have on a table in the Sierra Norte — slow, honest, and made with the kind of love that shows up in the flavor.
